Account Manager – PR (Manchester)

You’ll thrive in a busy agency environment and have some big brand experience delivering strategic PR campaigns. You’ll be up for a challenge and be willing to jump in and take the reins on some great accounts. B2B and B2C experience is important.

The Role

Assisting the Senior PR team members, you will help to provide creative and strategic direction, and play an important part in the delivery of our consumer and B2B campaigns. As Account Manager, you will be expected to manage client accounts and have a firm handle on activity and budgets to ensure these remain profitable, and that work is of the highest standard. You will build and maintain strong relationships with clients and have involvement in new business activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • To manage the implementation of agreed Client/Campaign activity (both day-to-day and forward planning)
  • Secure positive media coverage through sell-ins and support junior team members by thorough briefing
  • To be responsible for monitoring the progress of Client activity, providing regular updates and coverage reports, identifying new opportunities or potential problems and suggesting relevant courses of action to the Account Director/Group Account Director
  • To set KPIs for your clients and be able to find ways to implement solutions if targets are not being met
  • Researching and drafting creative PR content, you will also copy check and guide junior team members on how to create good copy
  • To contribute to the writing and delivery of strategic, newsworthy, realistic and creative campaigns that respond to a Client’s communication requirements
  • Be fully immersed in our clients’ industries, marketplace and understand their key objectives,
  • Keep updated on the Client’s marketplace through competitor reviews and reading
  • Ensure Client needs are met quickly, efficiently and completely
  • Ensure that the highest level of service is consistently provided, along with strong attention to detail
  • You will have an aptitude and love of building and developing client relationships that stand the test of time – built on both professional respect and personal likeability and you will develop solid client relationships at every level
  • To ensure that the team is fully prepared for client meetings and present backs
  • To set and adhere to budgets, constantly tracking and flagging any issues to Senior team members
  • To manage the workload, efficiency and on-going mentoring and development of more junior members of staff, imparting knowledge, leading by example and sharing best practice
  • Mentor, manage and nurture direct reports
  • To determine priorities and guide workloads
  • To provide input for team appraisals, observing strengths and weaknesses and giving suggestions on development when appropriate
  • To act as brand guardian for both BJL and its Clients in all situations, ensuring a positive profile is maintained and taking appropriate and early action to rectify negativity
  • Understand and positively promote the Agency’s philosophy, its work and integrity internally and externally
  • To be aware of and promote the Agency services and those of the wider Dentsu network
  • Begin to take responsibility for team’s financial status – income, profitability, growth, debtors
  • Brief AD/GAD regularly on the status of Client business / account team
  • Forward plan team / Client workloads
New Business
  • Play a contributing role in the Agency’s new business drive
 Personal Attributes and Experience
  • Likely to have 3+ years’ experience in a reputable PR agency or in the PR department of an integrated agency
  • Consumer and B2B experience
  • An eye for what makes a great news story
  • The ability to write creative copy including features, case studies, releases, blogs etc
  • Excellent media contacts
  • An appetite for and understanding of link building / Digital PR (desirable)
  • The ability to form and strengthen solid client relationships
  • Experienced in managing a small team in addition to ‘managing up’
  • Proactive and a strong sense of intuition
  • An agile mind that can cope with multi-client demands
  • Commercially minded with evidence of growing new business from existing client relationships
